Chapter Summary: This chapter covers a number of different topics, including issues related to creating the client-lawyer relationship, ending the client-lawyer relationship, and the allocation of decision-making authority between a lawyer and client.  The chapter includes material about the scope of the legal profession’s monopoly, including the prohibition on unauthorized practice, geographic limits on  lawyer practice, and the rules that prohibit lawyes from sharing fees or partnering with nonlawyers. It includes material related to lawyer competence (through discipline, malpractice, and ineffective assistance of counsel).
